How the quiz picks your hair colors
10 questions find your likely color season. The last question only puts that season's hair colors in order.
Each answer places you on three measures: warm or cool, light or deep, bright or soft. The season closest to your answers wins, and the result names the runner-up too, so you can see how close the call was. Every season has five hair colors that share its measures: a warm, light season gets golden blondes, a cool, deep season gets cool browns and blue-black.
The last question asks how big a change you want. It never moves your season. It sorts the five colors by how far each one is from your natural hair: close to it, a shade or two away, or a clear change.
What this quiz does not claim
- It suggests colors that suit a season. It does not predict how a dye will come out on your hair.
- It does not change the hair in a photo, and it does not see your face. It reads your answers.
- It names a likely season and a runner-up, never a certain one. Answer for your natural, undyed coloring.
- The photo analysis on this site is not perfect either. We publish our own accuracy test, including where it gets seasons wrong.
What color should I dye my hair? Three steps
- 1
Check your season
The quiz gives a likely season from your answers. A selfie measures your skin, eyes and hair, so dyed hair can move the result. Several selfies in different light settle a close call.
- 2
Take the colors to your colorist
Show the names and hex codes on your result, and say if you want warm (golden) or cool (ash). A colorist mixes dye from a chart, not from a hex code, so let them pick the closest shade.
- 3
Ask for a strand test
Dye comes out differently on every head of hair, because it mixes with the color you start from. A strand test shows the real result before you commit.

Frequently asked
Is this hair color quiz free?
Yes. All 11 questions and the result are free. No email, no signup and no photo.
What hair color suits me?
The hair colors of your color season. Warm seasons (Spring and Autumn) look best in golden, copper and caramel tones. Cool seasons (Summer and Winter) look best in ash, cool brown and blue-black tones. Depth matters as much as tone: light seasons suit lighter hair, deep seasons suit deeper hair.
What color should I dye my hair?
Start from your season, then decide how big a change you want. A color close to your natural one is the easiest to keep, because the roots show less as they grow. A bigger change can work too if it stays warm or cool like your season. The last question of the quiz orders the five colors by that choice.
What is the best hair color for my skin tone?
Two things decide it: your undertone and your depth. Golden or peachy skin suits warm hair colors, and pink or bluish skin suits ash and cool ones. Light coloring suits lighter hair, and deep coloring suits deeper hair. The quiz asks about both: your veins, metals, white or cream fabric and the sun for undertone, and your skin, eyes and natural hair for depth.
Does dyeing my hair change my color season?
No. Your season comes from your natural coloring, mostly your skin undertone, which dye does not change. Dye does change the contrast between your hair and skin, so a lighter or deeper version of your palette can suit you better after a big change. Answer the quiz for your natural hair.
Will the color look the same on my hair?
Not exactly. The colors on your result are flat references. Real hair has many tones, and dye mixes with the color you start from. Use the result to choose a direction, then ask a colorist and do a strand test.
Can I see the hair color on my own photo?
Not on this site. The quiz suggests colors that suit your season. It does not change the hair in a photo. The free photo analysis puts your face on your best and worst color palettes, which checks the season the hair colors come from.
