The vein test: blue vs green veins and what your undertone is
Turn your wrist over in daylight. Blue or purple veins mean a cool undertone; green means warm; a blue-green you cannot decide means neutral or olive. It is the fastest undertone check there is, and the one people trust too far.

Three different skin depths above, on purpose: undertone is independent of how light or deep your skin is. Very fair skin can run green veins, and deep skin can run blue ones.
When the wrist lies
Vein colour depends on how deep your veins sit and how thick the skin over them is, neither has anything to do with your undertone, and the skin at your wrist is not the skin at your face, which is the skin you actually dress. Above all it depends on the light: the same wrist reads blue in one room and green in another.
So use it, but do not stop at it. Check it against the metal test, silver versus gold beside your face, and pure white versus cream under your chin. Two of three agreeing is your undertone. All three splitting means neutral or olive, and no wrist will resolve that.
And undertone is only half the job
Even a confident vein reading only gives you temperature, one of the three axes that decide your color season. Cool points you at the Summers and Winters, warm at the Springs and Autumns: six seasons, not one. Depth and clarity choose which of the six is yours, and a wrist carries neither.

For both, the warm-versus-cool question matters less than getting depth and clarity right, which is exactly what a measured analysis settles.
Is the vein test accurate?
It is a useful first check, not a verdict. The wrist can mislead, vein colour is affected by how deep your veins sit, your skin’s thickness, and the light you are standing in, and the skin at your wrist is not the skin at your face. Read it alongside the metal test and the white-versus-cream test, and trust the majority rather than any single one.
Why does the light change my vein colour?
Because light temperature shifts every colour you see, including the one under your skin. Warm domestic bulbs and fluorescent tubes push the reading one way or the other, which is why the vein test is only meaningful in neutral daylight. A raw photo has the same problem, the camera’s white balance moves warm against cool, which is why the analysis here calibrates every photo against a neutral reference in the frame, the whites of your eyes, before it reads anything.
