How to find your color season

Color analysis places you on three measures. The quiz asks about each one, and the season closest to your three answers wins.

Warm or cool
Your undertone. It splits the 12 seasons in half: Springs and Autumns are warm, Summers and Winters are cool. The two ends are golden and peachy, or pink and blue.
Light or deep
How light or deep your coloring is overall. It decides between a Light, a True and a Deep season. The two ends are fair hair and eyes, or dark ones.
Bright or soft
How clear your coloring is. It is the measure people most often get wrong by eye, and it decides Bright and Soft seasons. The two ends are clear, high contrast, or muted and blended.

Each answer moves you along one or more of the three measures, and some questions count more than others: the white-or-cream test and the metal test are the strongest at-home checks for undertone, so they weigh the most. Every season sits at its own point on the three measures. To determine your color season, the quiz finds the point closest to yours and the next closest one, and shows how far apart the two are.

What this quiz does not claim

  • It reads your answers, not your face. If you misjudge your undertone, the result moves with you.
  • It does not see dyed hair, makeup or a tan. Answer for your natural coloring.
  • It names a likely season and a runner-up, never a certain one. When two seasons are close, it says Borderline.
  • The photo analysis on this site is not perfect either. We publish our own accuracy test, including where it gets seasons wrong.

How to do a color analysis on yourself

If you want to check the quiz in a mirror, this takes five minutes.

  1. 1

    Stand at a window

Daylight, no lamp. Indoor bulbs make skin look warmer than it is, which is the one thing you are trying to judge.

  2. 2

    Take your makeup off

Pull your hair back if it is dyed. You want your skin, eyes and natural hair, not what you put on them.

  3. 3

Hold two fabrics under your chin

Pure white, then cream. Then silver, then gold. Watch your skin, not the fabric. One makes it look even, the other shows shadows.

Frequently asked

Is this color palette quiz free?

Yes. All 12 questions, your likely season, the runner-up and the palette are free, with no email and no signup. Your answers stay in your browser and are not sent anywhere.

What color palette am I?

There are 12 seasonal palettes, three in each of the four families: Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter. Your palette is the season closest to you on three measures: warm or cool, light or deep, bright or soft. The quiz above places you on all three and names the closest season and the next one.

What color looks best on me?

The colors that share your three measures. A warm, deep, soft coloring looks best in warm, deep, muted colors like rust and olive. A cool, light, soft coloring looks best in dusty rose and powder blue. Your result lists the 20 colors of your likely season with hex codes.

How accurate is a color palette quiz?

It is a good place to start. A quiz reads what you tell it, and undertone is hard to judge by eye, especially under indoor light or with dyed hair. A photo analysis measures your skin, eyes and hair instead, and our own accuracy test shows where that works and where it does not.

Can I find my color season without a photo?

You can find your likely season, which is what this quiz does. To see a palette on your own face, you need a photo or a mirror and real fabric. The free photo analysis on this site runs on your device and puts your face on your best and worst palette.

What if my result is borderline?

Then two neighbouring seasons are close for you, and both palettes will mostly work. Look at the colors where they differ: the season comparison pages show those side by side. A photo, or several photos in different light, usually settles it.

How many color seasons are there?

This site uses the 12-season system: four families, each split into three by the measure that dominates. Some analysts use 16 seasons. The extra four are mostly in-between versions of the 12.
